Lorna Dee Cervantes Wins Pushcart Prize For "Shelling the Pecans" (!!)

Hey, scroll down to the comments on that last post. Seems my poem, "Shelling the Pecans" just won a Pushcart Prize. YEA! Thanks, Didi. Gracias, de veras. Thanks for the nomination, and for asking for the poem in the first place for OCHO Magazine. YEA!

And, y'all, dear readers, you get to watch 'em as they hatch. For the poem, do a search here for "Shelling the Pecans" or go to my MySpace site to hear it.

Being an old small press person, this means more to me than a Pulitzer, btw.

I just sent you a bio. Don't forget that this poem will appear in my new book, Una poco de gracia/ Bit of Grace: New and Collected Love Poems; and, you never know, you know, and that's all I know, ya know? Tu sabes. Congratulations: you were the great "decider" - kudos! Y muchas felicidades.

Me, I'm stoked. The first time I won a Pushcart it was still called the "Pushcart Prize: Best of the Small Presses and Little Magazines." In many ways, this is a sort of return to the roots for Henderson and Pushcart, too. But, I knew this was a good poem - and hey, bilingual, so, who else would want it, eh? but some Miami gal que no? And, I forgot about Lulu, that makes me happier. I consider this a victory for po'bloggers everywhere since the poem first appeared on a blog -- one of yours.
