Yes, hurricane spells inevitability. I worked last week with a fellow from Miami. He was scheduled to fly home Sat. but I sent him home Friday morning, to beat the storm and to help his family batten down to ride out la Wilma.
I've never been in a hurricane, but I sat out a fearsome winter storm in a freezing quonset hut atop a Korean mountain in 1969. I thought for sure the wind was gonna rip us off the foundation. Talk about palpable fear. All week the Miami vato recounts with resignation the inevitability of storm after storm year after year. And the language: "the wall of the eye" and the style: quiet desperation.
