"A Portrait Poem" From 'Rough Portrait' by Barbara Jacobs
A PORTRAIT POEM
from "ROUGH PORTRAIT" by Barbara Jacobs
Attracted by the jackets
of their dagger breasts,
one year varnished, two years
placed in a wooden bookcase,
my sister, my mother. Naked
women, polished and buried
deep in their ample books.
My father and I, he himself,
attracted—my naked year
buried deep—two wooden years.
