Referential Treatment

Does anyone know of universities considering MFA students for Fall 2005, in light of the recent blow suffered by the Gulf Coast? I've spent the better part of the morning researching, and have found some promising news. Anne and Collins have pointed out some possible options.

It looks like I've got a couple of big decisions to make within the next week, Stranger and me both. Many thanks to everyone who's sent poetry funds and good energy this way, it means the world. Unfortunately, the writing well is dry right now, but, as can be expected, the muse never dies. This is all I've written during the last few weeks. I hope it'll continue soon.

Poem [Tossed Among, or The Story Does Not Hold When There Is No Center, or More Than What I Heard]

When the sky tore open Tuesday night to reveal
a pink sky of clouds underneath, I thought of you first &
only. This is ventifact, frisson, apostasy, quince,
the aftertaste of a good lay made better
by a good lay. Give me this: your hand, a promise wrapped
in sin that you will not let go. Even if, as R said,
the sky opens up & does not close. Even if, as you said,
we’re left with nothing but residue, fractured gilt,
what’s been gathered in our dirty hands & held up to
the light. Hold on tight, baby, this is it, the part that really
hurts. And by ‘it’, I mean the days that follow, relentless
& without fail, one after another, O most holy & mundane.

Erin,

I just posted to Craig's list this morning (thinking of you), to my chair, and to my blog a few days ago, that you should consider transferring to CU Boulder. We have an excellent program, and are working on getting our MFA approved (complicated by the fact that Ft. Collins claimed the MFA first in the state system), and I'm sure that most, if not all, of our offerings would transfer. I'm on sabbatical, but would consider taking time out to conduct independent studies -- especially if there are other cw students who might consider transferring to CU Boulder.

I have a basement apt that needs some work, but could be readied within a week or two. Entrance is from within the house, but it has a 3/4 bath and small kitchen. We're a straight queer-friendly household, and would love to have you stay with us. Hey, it would save me postage sending you these anthologies & other books.

Just a thought. I thought I had posted the comment but I was having some problem with blogger and a previous version must have published in its place.

Take care. Keep to the light. Poetry On.
